Typically snow events in Estes Park begin in late November and continue into May with the most accumulation arriving in March through April. Once snow falls in December it will likely stay around on the ground given the below freezing temperatures... but the roads are kept clear.
We plow and shovel at our homes for snow events greater than 4 inches. The Town of Estes Park and Larimer County do a GREAT job of keeping the roads to our homes clear. Regardless we recommend 4 wheel (at a minimum front wheel) drive during the winter months.
Plenty to do!! ....or do nothing at all and just take-in the beautiful snowcaps and wildlife!!
Find out everything you need to know about winter activities in the Park at- https://www.nps.gov/romo/planyourvisit/winter_activities.htm
Avoid the crowds by spending time in Estes Park during the winter months! Most stores and restaurants remain open (although some on shortened hours).
The Town of Estes Park is simply a magical place during the Thanksgiving and Christmas Holidays; decorated in a glow of lights with the beautiful Rocky Mountains as its backdrop!
Check-out the general AspenHaus website "things to do" tab! Many of the same activities that are available the rest of the year, are available in the winter months....hiking, fishing, day trips, exploring the RMNP and more!!
While there is no lift skiing in the RMNP there is snow-shoeing and back country skiing for the adventurous. The closest ski area to Estes Park is Eldora which is located ~ 1 hour from our homes near Nederland CO.
